TIMELINE: 4 Weeks (January 2022, January 2026)

ROLE: Full- Stack Designer

PROJECT TYPE: UI/UX, Product Design, Prototyping

Find Your Belongings is a digital lost-and-found App that simplifies the process of reporting, finding, and returning lost items while, prioritizing user safety, ease of use, and trust.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

People frequently lose personal belongings in public and shared spaces, but existing lost-and-found systems are fragmented, time-consuming, and unreliable. Users often struggle to report lost items, search for matches, or safely return found belongings, leading to stress, wasted time, and permanent loss of valuable or sentimental items.

THE CHALLENGE

How might we simplify the lost-and-found process and create a centralized, intuitive and user-friendly platform that helps users easily find lost belongings and safely return lost items?

THE SOLUTION

Find My Belongings.

The application's solution is a secure, institution-based lost and found network. Students and employees use verified accounts linked to their school or workplace. After logging in, users can access, list, and retrieve

lost or found items, but only within their specific institution, which helps to keep the information relevant and credible.

The app fosters a safe, community-focused space

by restricting access to approved members of each institution, which minimizes unnecessary content, improves the chances of items being returned, and streamlines the process of locating or recovering

lost property.

FEATURES

01 VERIFIED INSTITUTION BASED ACCESS

Users sign up using their school or workplace to access a dedicated lost and found space specific to their institution. With verified student and employee accounts, only trusted members can share or request items, which supports relevant search results and creates a safe community environment.

02 POST, CLAIM AND CONTACT FLOW

Users can swiftly share details about lost or found items, including pictures, descriptions, the location, and the date, thus ensuring accurate and efficient matches. Through in-app requests, users can claim an item, ensuring secure communication and safeguarding personal data.

03 SECURE OWNERSHIP VERIFICATION AND HANDOFF

To claim an item, matching photos and details are used, the finder approves the claim manually, and institution-verified accounts provide accountability. The process is kept safe and trustworthy by returning items at secure, designated handoff locations.

REDESIGN

I initially designed this app for the DFrame UI/UX Design Hackathon at UDGAM 2022, hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati. Revisiting the project in 2026, I realized that while the concept was strong, the execution fell short. The colour palette lacked cohesion, the background felt visually overwhelming, and inconsistencies in spacing and the design system negatively impacted usability.

With a stronger foundation in design principles today, I chose to revisit and simplify the appโ€”refining the visual language, improving accessibility, and creating a more cohesive and user-friendly experience that better reflects my current skills and design thinking.
